School Leadership with Dr. Toby Travis and Ed Fulbright on Mastering Your Money Radio

Recent research reveals that 90 percent of school leaders say building trust is important to their mission, yet only about half were confident in their ability to do so. Additional research shows that high levels of trust in educational institutions and their leaders result in significant benefits — including greater financial stability, fewer behavior management issues, healthier parent and community relations, increased rates of faculty and staff retention and higher levels of student achievement. But despite the positive outcomes related to high trust levels with school leaders, few schools intentionally invest time, energy or resources to develop trust in their leaders.

The behaviors of a trusted school leader who is able to support a healthy school environment are many, varied, and interconnected. Similar to a suspension bridge in their need for stable structural components, school leaders build trust by assembling seven key interworking elements. As they work to insure the seven structural components fall firmly into place, they transform into trusted leaders able to advance the school’s central mission with the buy-in and support of the full school community.
